Shoreline Golf Society Hands Out Two Championships
The Shoreline Golf Society (SGS) crowned a couple of champions at Fox Hopyard Golf Club in East Haddam on Oct. 11. Bob Gworek of Clinton won the SGS season-long Match Play Championship, while Chester resident Mike Gifford and Rafael Martinez of Cromwell teamed up to take the season-long 4-Ball Championship.
Gworek won the SGS’s match play title by defeating Luke Gagliardi of North Branford in the championship match. Gworek edged out Gagliardi by the score of 1 up, meaning that he led by one hole with just one hole remaining in the match. In the consolation match, Bill Fitzgerald of Clinton and Madison resident Bill Tutill played to a tie.
On that same day, Gifford and Martinez claimed the SGS’s 4-Ball title at Fox Hopyard. Gifford and Martinez got the nod by defeating Mike Dore of Westbrook and Eric Fuller of Madison in the final. Gifford and Martinez were up by four holes with two holes remaining, thereby winning the match by a 4 and 2 score.
The SGS will be celebrating its 23rd season in 2021. To apply for a membership or for info, visit sgsict.com.
