Matt Marcarelli Takes 3rd in Shot Put at States for North Haven Indians' Boys' Indoor Track
Junior Matt Marcarelli recorded a throw of 47-3 to finish third at the Class L State Championship and help the North Haven boys' indoor track squad place 18th, the same slot in which the Indians' girls finished. Marcarelli had previously won the event at the SCC Western Sectional Championship and SCC Championship and went on to take 10th place at the State Open with a distance of 46-10½.
Additionally for the boys, John Spencer came in fifth place in the 55 hurdles with a mark of 8.37, Dillon McManus was ninth on the pole vault (10-6), and the 4x800 relay of Jonathan Gonzalez, Gray Piscatelli, Raymond Rich-Fiondella, and Dave Goodrich placed sixth at 8:45.05.
On the girls' side, Emi Kanyo led the way by placing third in the high jump at 5-0 with Kathryn Ionta taking 10th in the shot put (28-10½) and the 4x800 relay of Dawn Hubbell, Shannon Carboni, Alexandra Ford, and Elizabeth Stern finishing eighth with a time of 11:05.69. Later in the week, Kanyo placed 12th at the State Open at 4-10.
