The Old Saybrook Department of Police Services is currently investigating the suspicious death of an infant at the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites located at 1750 Boston Post Road.

Police were called to the Econo Lodge in the early afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 19 for the report of an unresponsive, not breathing 14 month-old. The Old Saybrook Department of Police Services, Old Saybrook Ambulance Association, and the Middlesex Hospital Paramedic responded to assist. The infant was transported to the Middlesex Medical Center Shoreline and then to the Yale New Haven Hospital.

Old Saybrook Police Detectives executed a search and seizure warrant on one of the rooms located within the hotel late Saturday Evening. Many items were seized to be submitted for forensic examination.

The infant succumbed to its injuries on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 20.

This very sad event has been deemed an isolated incident and poses no risk to the public.
