With a new Mayor, new Deputy Mayor and a new Party majority, North Branford's 2015-17 Town Council was sworn in at last night's organizational meeting.
Mayor Michael Doody (R) and Deputy Mayor Joseph Faughnan (D) took individual oaths given by Town Clerk Lisa Valenti, followed by Valenti swearing in the remaining seven council members as a group, including: Rose Marie Angeloni (R), Daniel Armin (D) Anthony Candelora (R), Marie Diamond (D), Chris Manna (D), George Miller (D) and Al Rose (R).
Following the past three terms of Republican leadership under former Mayor Candelora, the council is now led by a Democratic majority. In its first act, following a motion made by Faughnan, the council unanimously voted to appoint a new Town Attorney, North Branford attorney Pasquale "Pat" Young. Young has served as Town Attorney in during previous administrations and takes over for immediate past Town Attorney, John Gesmonde.
At the meeting, Valenti also swore in two of three elected Board of Education members, Sarah-Jane Querfeld (R) and Dianne Vumback (D). The the third elected member, Deborah Prunier (R), was not available and was sworn in separately.
