Robert Corcoran, 87, East Haven
Robert Corcoran, 87 of East Haven, husband of more than 60 years to Sallyann (Ginger) Corcoran, died July 2. He was born on May 19, 1926 to the late Thomas and Anna (Welch) Corcoran. Bob graduated from Commercial High School in 1944 and the National Radio Institute of Washington, D.C. He served in the Army as a staff sergeant from 1944 to 1946 during World War II, spending a year in India. He worked at American Steel & Wire and at the Plymouth Electric Company for 32 years, becoming TV service manager, then became TV service manager for Zenith Radio Corporation for seven years.
Bob was a past member of the Crow Hills Club, United Commercial Travelers, and the Knights of St. Patrick. He was a current member of American Legion Post 89, VFW Post 7330, and the East Haven Stoners, of which he was the secretary for 11 years. At one time, Bob was an avid duckpin bowler and in later years played a lot of golf as an original member of the Dawn Patrol at Alling Memorial Golf Course. He was also a New York Yankees fan since 1936 and enjoyed watching the UConn women’s basketball team have its fabulous success.
The above was written by Bob himself, and that’s the type of man he was—always taking care of everything.
Bob was a friend to all. He loved golf, football, baseball, playing pinochle, and social gatherings that brought people together. The family thanks the Veteran’s Hospital in West Haven and the Connecticut Hospice.
In addition to his loving and adoring wife, he is survived by his daughters Pamela DeDona and her husband Carmen and Sharon Corcoran; his sons Wayne “Cub” Corcoran of East Haven and Scott Corcoran and his wife Molly of Bridgeport; three grandsons, Daniel, Greg, and Jayme DeDona, who made him so proud with their scholastic and athletic achievements as graduates of Yale, Boston University, and Brown; his granddaughter Jillian Corcoran, the latest joy in his life; and his brother-in-law Raymond “Buddy” Catalano and a very special sister–in-law, Joan Corcoran. Bob was predeceased by sisters Grace Harrick, Florence Considine, Marian Catalano, and Ruth McDaniel and brothers John and Thomas Corcoran.
A brief service was held July 6 at the Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven, followed by burial with military honors at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Haven Stoner’s scholarship fund, CT Hospice of Branford, or to The VA Hospital in West Haven at www.volunteer.va.gov.
