Friends of Scranton Library Booksale a Success
The Scranton Library Friends 15th annual Used Book Sale to benefit the library was a great success, raising more than $20,000 for the library. A grand total of 188 volunteers worked at the sale.
Headed by Marsha Brunelle and assisted by Hank Robinson, the following people worked many weeks to sort books and set up the rooms. They are: Bob and Nancy Chapman, Ed Detmer, Joan Filbey, Barbara Gibson, Susannah Graedel, Caroline Guenther, Sandy Long, Matt Lubanko, Pauline Murphy, Vicki Murphy, Joan O'Neill, Ingrid Oris, Connie Piccione, Carol Robinson, Joyce Rourke, Carmela Scialabba, Pam Skelly, Dan Walker, Ann Ward, Judy Whitehead, and John and Martha Wolf. Thanks go to all of these ladies and gents who spent many hours getting ready for the sale.
Many thanks go to Beth Crowley, Jane Ash, Katie Fargo, and Phyllis Wigham at the library for their assistance. Stop & Shop donated water and Tuxis Lumber donated bags, the Madison Police Department loaned traffic cones, and Alma Carroll at the town office loaned stanchions. Thanks go to all and to Bill McMinn of Facilities and Fire Marshal Sam De Burral and fire watchers Jeff Daricek, Tim Lunn, Ally McNeely, and Michael Vece who kept us safe.
Left-over books were donated to these charities: American Friends of Kenya, New Haven Reads, Guilford Library Friends, Wethersfield Library Friends, Big Hearted Books, and Discover Books. Games were donated to the Girls and Boys Clubs, and religious books went to Catholic Community Services.
