John McSherry, 59, of East Haven passed away Oct. 20 at home. He was born Dec. 2, 1959, in New Haven to John and Martha (Waterbury) McSherry. John is survived by his loving wife of more than 30 years, Deborah (Orlando) McSherry, and children Michael McSherry, Matthew McSherry, and Mercedes McSherry, all of East Haven. John was also uncle to nieces and nephews Danny, Charlie (Lara), and Timmy Norris, and Bridget and Meghan Boian; also great-uncle to nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister Maureen Boian (Bill) of Orange and brother-in-law Charlie Norris. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Melinda Norris.
John graduated from high school in Tennessee and worked as a truck driver for Fieldview Transportation and as a lead custodian at the 6 to 6 magnet school in Bridgeport, for the majority of his life. He was a lover of wildlife and enjoyed his cabin in the mountains. He also enjoyed fishing days with his sons.
Dad had a heart of gold and always gave the shirt off his back for the people he loved. His family was the center of his life. He was a “no-regrets” kind of man and a role model to all those fortunate enough to have known him. He spent the past 30 years married to his wife whom he loved unconditionally. They were the love of each other’s lives and best friends. He was a hard-working man and a devoted husband and father. He lived life on his own terms and treasured every moment. Nobody could ever ask for a better husband and father than John. He will be missed and treasured forever by all who love him. Rest in peace until we meet again.
A private Memorial Service was held at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private.
