Guilford Girls’ Ice Hockey Splits First Week of the Season
The Guilford girls’ ice hockey team opened its season on Dec. 10 at home vs. West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy, falling 3-2 in a hard-fought game from start to finish.
On the board first for the Grizzlies was Camryn LeTourneau, assisted by Ella DiNola at 12:45 of the first period.
The Grizzlies scored again at 10:01 of the second period to tie the game at two, with a short-handed breakaway goal by freshman Sammy Horton, assisted by Peyton LeMay.
West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy scored a power play goal with 1:01 left in the third period to take the win.
Senior captain and goaltender Olivia Hwang had 49 saves on 52 shots.
The Grizzlies were back on the ice away at Greenwich High School on Dec. 14, where they got their first win of the winter.
A big blast from the point by junior defender Emma Clifford for her first high school goal put the Grizzlies ahead, with the only score of the game at 6:34 of the third period. Another brilliant performance came from Hwang, who earned the shutout with 60 saves.
