One Arrest after Shot Fired into Air During Branford Disturbance

December 10, 2024: On Dec. 7 at around 11 p.m. Branford Police were called to a loud disturbance involving a large group yelling at each other and making threats in the parking lot of 11 Mill Plain Road. While officers were heading to that location, police were informed there were shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers determined no one was injured and that there was one (1) shot fired into the air. They located the individual who fired the shot, identified as Gerard McAfee (53) of Branford.
McAfee was taken into custody and charged with Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (C.G.S. 53-203), Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit (C.G.S. 29-35(a)(1)), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (C.G.S. 53a-217), Criminal Use of a Weapon (C.G.S. 53a-216), Risk of Injury to a Child (C.G.S. 53-21), Reckless Endangerment 1st (C.G.S. 53a-63) and Breach of Peace in the Second Degree (C.G.S. 53a-181).
McAfee was released after posting his $300,000 bond and will be arraigned at GA 23 – New Haven Court on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. At this time, the investigation is still active.
