Madison Tree Lighting Dec.6
On Friday, Dec. 6, the Madison Beach and Recreation Department will continue a tradition that dates back 45 years, the town tree lighting starting at 6 p.m. Since the Madison Chamber of Commerce and the Deacon John Grave House Foundation started it all those years ago, it has been an event of celebration for the holiday season, enjoyed by people and families of all ages.
Among the many events planned for the event is a speech about the event given by Madison's First Selectwoman, Peggy Lyons. She will start off the event, followed by a performance from the Larry Stevens duo, who will perform a number of Christmas and holiday-related songs.
Boy Scout Troop 490 will also be on hand to provide attendees with hot cocoa. Throughout the years, the organization has helped with the candle-lighting festivities, where people can hold their own candlelight while enjoying the ceremony and festivities.
The event is especially inclusive of all children as well. At around 7 p.m., the Madison Fire Department will bring along a fire truck with Santa Claus, who will not only help count down to the tree lighting but will also be around to take pictures with the children and families who attend the event.
The tree lighting is set to take place on Meeting House Lane. For more information, visit www.madisonct.org.
