Ronald Scala
Ronald “Hoot” Scala, 92, of East Haven, passed away on Oct. 25, 2024, at home surrounded by his sister, Rose, and family. Ronald was born May 25, 1932, in New Haven to Ralph and Elizabeth (Arcucci) Scala. Ronald is survived by his loving and devoted sister, Rose O’Keefe (John) of North Haven, and a brother, Louis Scala (Michelle) of Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, along with David Chiaraluce, whom he considered like a son. Ronald is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vincent “Sonny” Scala and Ralph “Butchie” Scala; a sister, Connie Vitale; nephew, John O’Keefe; and a niece, Jennifer Laudano.
Ronald, known to those who knew him as “Ronnie” or “Hoot,” was a graduate of East Haven High School, Class of 1951. He was a member of the East Haven High School baseball team and threw the first no-hitter as a left-handed pitcher in 1948 against Branford High School, leading the team to a 5-0 win. He was also an avid golfer in his younger years, as well as a member of the East Haven Stoner’s Club.
Ronald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Before his retirement, he worked as an Iron Worker at Local 15 and 424. In his spare time, Ronnie loved horse racing, the beach, and all sports.
He leaves behind his beloved friends, Madison and Pat. Ronnie was a friend to all who knew him and will be missed dearly.

Family received friends on Oct. 30,in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Avenue, East Haven. His funeral procession left the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Pio Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven, with committal following at East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven, with full U.S. Army Military Honors.
