Base Your Decision on Facts
It’s disappointing to see the Chester squirrel on lawn signs advocating a particular vote. It’s a shame that this fun, recognizable symbol is being politicized. It shouldn’t be.
Furthermore, the messaging on these signs is untrue and inflammatory. You will not lose your right to vote. I am glad to see people fired up about voting, but why don’t more of you participate in the Board of Education referendums, which is the majority of the entire budget? How many town meetings do you vote in now? Many decisions are made by a small minority of people who show up, resulting in most residents not being represented.
Adopting a charter enables a town to have more local control and not be ruled by generic state statutes. Town government has become more complicated. Having a town administrator would ensure a smooth transition through election cycles; this person would not be a political candidate or appointee but hired for their expertise.
This referendum is for an important issue. However you vote, please base your decision on the facts, not propaganda or rumor.
