Apple Pi Robotics to Hold Open House in Guilford
Apple Pi Robotics club is a youth program that competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) for high school age students. Students will learn to design, build, and program a 150-pound robot to execute a winning strategy for the current year game. The team competes in the New England district, and in the past two years, Apple Pi has qualified to compete at the World Championships in Houston.
Apple Pi designs robot parts using computer-aided design (CAD), organizes Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach events, programs in Java, produces robot parts using various tools (bandsaw, lathe, drill press, mill, Computer Numerical Control robots (CNC), 3d printer), manages an online presence/social media, drives and operates the robot, and presents at competitions to win design, spirit, and outreach awards.
Apple Pi is organized as a 4H community team and accepts all interested high school age students from the shoreline area. The organization will be hosting an informational open house on Saturday, Sep. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon, where students can see demos and learn more details about the program.
