Guilford Garden Club Presents Scholarships
Press Release from Guilford Garden Club
The Guilford Garden Club is pleased to announce that the club awarded a $2,000 scholarship to each of two graduating seniors who have shown community involvement, interest in environmental areas and issues, and will pursue environmental studies in college. Guilford High School (GHS) graduating seniors Timothy Hastings and Coleman Love were each awarded a $2,000 scholarship at the GHS Scholarship Awards Night on June 4.
Hastings plans to attend Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire and will major in environmental science. Hastings is a Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) Scholar Athlete who has excelled in football, wrestling, and track and field. He is also the recipient of a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Award and was captain of the wrestling team. Hastings volunteers with coaching beginning athletes in wrestling and the track and field events of shot put and discus, as well as assisting in community programs as a Guilford Volunteer Fire Department cadet. In his spare time, Hastings enjoys wildlife and landscape photography, fueling his interest in the environment.
Love will attend Wesleyan University in Middletown and will major in environmental science. Love achieved high honors in all academic quarters, is a member of the National Honor Society, and is a GHS and SCC Scholar Athlete. He participated in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track for all four years of high school. As a senior, he was captain of the GHS outdoor track team. In addition to extracurricular activities and work at Bishop’s Orchards, Love also finds the time for volunteer service, including as an assistant at Meigs Point Nature Center in Hammonasset State Park.
The Guilford Garden Club congratulates these outstanding graduates and wishes them continued success in their college careers.
