Robert E. Miner Sr.
Robert E. Miner Sr. “Bob,” beloved husband of Doris (Marsh) Miner, passed away on May 22, 2024.
Robert was born March 13, 1937, in Middletown, son of the late James and Hazel (Burr) Miner, and grew up in Old Saybrook and Higganum. After graduating high school, he served six years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. In 1958, Robert married Doris Marsh, the love of his life. They spent 65 loving, devoted, wonderful years together. Bob and Doris lived in Killingworth until moving to Deep River in 1962, where Bob built their home and where they raised their family. In 1985, they moved to Chester, where they eventually retired.
Bob had fond memories of working at Clinton Nurseries and with various local contractors before starting his own business as a self-employed painting and wallpapering contractor, a successful business that he continued until his retirement. He had a wonderful customer base that enjoyed his company as much as his work. While he worked, Bob always whistled a cheerful tune. He clearly loved what he was doing, whether it was for customers, friends, or family. He truly was a happy man.
Bob was a jack of all trades. He had a passion for building things and for gardening. He could build anything, and he could grow anything! He could often be found in his garage, with his cherished vintage Wheel Horse tractor, building something or just tinkering. His garage was something to see! The organization was admired by all who entered! Bob’s favorite part of the day was relaxing with his wife overlooking their beautiful yard full of gardens that they created together.
Bob was a kind, loving, and supportive husband, father, brother, uncle, friend. He would do anything for his family. He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, Robert Miner Jr. (Tee) and Richard Miner (Wendy), both of Deep River; and daughter Wendy Ingram (Gordon) of Westbrook; his sister Geraldine Hutra of East Haddam; brothers, James Miner Jr. (Tracy) of Westbrook and Craig Miner (Connie) of Acworth, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Taylor Miner (Brooke) of Clinton, Leah Smith (John) of Essex, Chris Miner (Jes) of Killingworth, Ryan Miner (Bree) of East Haddam, and Emily Miner of Deep River; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Beverly Miner, his sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Dave Carlson, and his brother-in-law John Hutra.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at St. James Episcopal Church, 501 Killingworth Rd (Rte. 81), Higganum. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
