Mildred “Millie” Maturo
Mildred “Millie” Maturo, 93, a resident of North Haven for over 60 years, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, in Palm Coast, Florida, with her loving family by her side.
Millie was raised in Foxon and attended Highland Secondary School and East Haven High School. She worked as a Phone Operator, Supervisor, and Office Assistant at SNET/AT&T in New Haven for over 25 years and retired at the age of 65. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (St. Paul VI Parish) in Hamden for over 60 years.
Millie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included cooking and baking, knitting, crocheting, and decorating. She made curtains, drapes, clothes, and blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and followed women’s basketball, especially the UConn Huskies, along with being a Boston Red Sox fan. Millie was a fan of country music, and she and her late husband, Joe, would follow her sister, Sally Ann, and daughter, Donna Marie, to their engagements around the Tri-State area. They also enjoyed trips to the Connecticut casinos and traveling in later years to Alaska, Hawaii, and Rome.
Millie gave loving advice to both children and grandchildren, and she was looked up to by family members and friends. She had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. Millie also touched an endless number of lives, including her caregivers in the last few months. She will be remembered for being very loving, caring, and always wanting the best for everyone. She is predeceased in death by her loving husband, Joseph P. Maturo; mother, Anna Geremia; father, Frank Geremia; and brother, Roger Geremia.
Millie is survived by her children: daughter Denise Eliseo and her husband, Joe; daughter Donna Finney and her husband, James; son Joseph P. Maturo, Jr. and Christeen Galvin; and daughter Jennifer Maturo. Also, her grandchildren: John Ferraiuolo and wife, Anastasia; Alicia Ferraiuolo Pena and husband, Greg; Angela Finney; Michael Finney; Cynthia Finney and husband, Tyler Borger; Kristen Noonan and husband Jason; Joseph P. Maturo, III; Matthew Maturo; Daniel and Travis Alvarado. Her great-grandchildren include Isabella and Apollonia Ferraiuolo, along with Blake, Brooklyn, and Brayden Noonan. Also, her loving sister Sally Ann Benjamin and husband Ed, sister-in-law Bonnie Geremia; sister-in-law Marie Gallagher, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven, at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to one of Millie’s favorite charities: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O.
