Girls’ Tennis Earns Senior Night Win, Baseball Wins a Pair
Girls’ Tennis
The Hand girls’ tennis team hosted Guilford on April 29 and fell 5-2. Wins for the Tigers came from Loden Bradstreet at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-4), and Antoinette Lowy at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-0).
The team hosted Sheehan on Senior Night on May 3 and won 7-0. Shutout wins came from sophomore Bradstreet, junior Ella Helfrich, and junior Lowy at singles, as well as No. 1 doubles duo Teagan Ariyan and Juliana Jorens.
Senior Joyce Li partnered up with junior Mia Scott at No. 2 doubles and claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win, while the senior No. 3 doubles combo of Hayden Agee and Kayla Johnson fought through a tough second set to win 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Aina Gali, making her debut as a Hand varsity starter, dominated her No. 4 singles opponent 6-0, 6-3.
Baseball
The Hand baseball team traveled to North Haven on May 1 and won 5-1. Brandon SanMarco pitched five and 2/3 innings, allowing one run and striking out seven batters. Payton Powell struck out all four batters that he faced. Ben Kuja had two hits, and Sam Markovitz had a two-RBI single.
On May 3, the team traveled to Jonathan Law and won 3-1. Owen Scarice threw a complete game while allowing three hits and no earned runs. Paul Calandrelli had a double and a run scored. Markovitz had an RBI single, and Kuja added an RBI. Nick Maynard and Alex Modica also recorded hits.
Boys’ Golf
On April 23, Hand boys’ golf traveled to Hamden and prevailed 180-205. The Tigers were led by medalist Matt McManus with a 42, while Cam Knight chipped in with a 43.
On April 25, the team hit the road to Branford and fell 171-176. Knight was a medalist with a 39 for the match.
The Tigers hosted Amity on April 29 and took a 172-174 loss. Kas Lesnik and McManus both recorded scores of 41 to earn medalist honors.
Hand played host to Cheshire on May 2 and lost 163-167. Knight shot a sterling 37 to claim medalist honors, while Lesnik and McManus recorded scores of 40 each. Despite the good showing by Hand's top three golfers, the depth of Cheshire was enough for them to claim a tight victory.
