East Haven Announces Removal of Old and Arrival of New Gazebo on Town Green
Press Release from Town of East Haven
The removal of the gazebo on the East Haven Town Green commenced on April 29. The historic gazebo adorning the Town Green is undergoing a transformation as removal efforts commence. The decades of weathering and wear have rendered the structure beyond repair, necessitating its removal.
Once taken down, the gazebo will be temporarily replaced by a mobile stage which the Town of North Haven has graciously allowed the Town of East Haven to use. The temporary structure will remain in place through the town’s Fall Concert Series, after which East Haven Public Works will commence the construction of a new gazebo.
“No matter how much we patched the old gazebo, the structural integrity had deteriorated beyond a repairable state,” Mayor Joseph Carfora said.
Carfora went on to address the use of the temporary mobile stage.
“I appreciate First Selectman Mike Freda of North Haven for allowing The Town of East Haven to utilize North Haven's mobile stage during this transitional period,” said Carfora. “Mike and I collaborate often on many issues, and this is a wonderful example. I am grateful for our ability to cooperate and support each other.”
The funding for the new gazebo is made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
This addition to the historic East Haven Town Green will serve as a focal point for community gatherings and events, symbolizing the conclusion of recent beautification efforts.
“The arrival of our new gazebo marks a significant milestone in the ongoing revitalization of our beloved East Haven Town Green,” Carfora said. “I am thrilled by the prospect of seeing this beautiful addition take shape, and I am confident that it will serve as a source of pride and joy for generations to come."
