Timothy Sprigg
Timothy Burns “Tim” Sprigg, 75, of Essex, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Timothy was raised in Essex. He attended Valley Regional High School in Deep River, Class of 1967.
After high school, he joined the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War. He loved traveling, seeing much of the world during his time in the service and while studying at the University of Exeter in England for a semester, while attending The University of Connecticut. He was a member of the Essex Sailing Masters Fife and Drum Corps and traveled to Dublin, Ireland, to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
He spent his career in construction, working on many homes in Essex and across Connecticut. He also worked as a marine surveyor. Tim loved the water, spending much of his life on the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound in the Thimble Islands, Branford. He was a lifetime member of Essex Frostbite Yacht Club and a past member of the Essex Yacht Club and Thimble Islands Sailing Club.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 45 years, Nancy Gowrie Sprigg, of Essex; his son Ian, and wife Faith, their children Penelope and Atreus, of Chester; and his son Spencer, of New York, New York. Timothy was predeceased by his parents, Edwin Amos Sprigg and Dorothy Burns White.
Timothy’s family would like to thank all the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff at Hartford Healthcare, Smilow Cancer Hospital, and VA Connecticut Health.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Essex Yacht Club, 13 Novelty Lane, Essex.
