New Gallery Exhibit Focuses on the Passage of Time
Spectrum Gallery and Artisans Store’s first show of 2019, Time Passages will open on Friday, Jan. 25 at the gallery, 61 Main Street, Centerbrook. With original artwork and fine crafts illustrating the passage of time, the show will explore the many ways and mediums of expressing this eternal concept. There will be an opening reception, free and open to the public, on Friday, Jan. 25 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., featuring wine and refreshment at the store, 61 Main Street, Centerbrook.
Barbara Nair, the director of the gallery, says the show will focus on the many ways the passage of time can be observed, including “seasonal changes, sunrises or sunsets, aging or birthing, objects rusting and deteriorating, nature wilting or about to bloom, and the list goes on.”
“Each image carries its own story,” she says. “The question for all of us to pose while viewing this show is how do we view time passing as an ending or a potential new beginning?”
Artists in the exhibit include abstract painter Aleta Gudelski, who works with radiant swirls of color; painter Melissa Imossi, a contemporary realist artist who focuses on the flow of light in her images; Richard Malinsky, an abstract painter who is exhibiting several works from his Aquos series influenced by the colorful marine life and vegetation found in the Florida coral reefs; Robert Dietz, a pastel artist with a passion for landscapes and animals; and Irish born and current North Carolina resident Paul Nixon, who presents at Spectrum for the first time.
Spectrum Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call Spectrum 860-767-0742 and visit spectrumartgallery.org.
