Boys’ Ice Hockey Rolls Through States, Girls’ Ice Hockey Takes a Loss
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The East Haven Co-op boys’ ice hockey team entered the Division II State Tournament as the No. 15 seed. In the first round on March 5, the Yellowjackets traveled to No. 2 West Haven and won 6-1. John D’Albero opened the scoring in the first period with an unassisted shorthanded goal.
East Haven had a big second period, when they scored four goals. These were scored by Lorenzo Defilio (assisted by Preston Cantele), Griffin McGlinchey (assisted by D’Albero and Cantele), Defilio (assisted by McGlinchey and D’Albero), and McGlinchey (assisted by Cantele).
In the third frame, Mike Savo found the net, with an assist from Nick Perillo.
Mike Fritz allowed one goal in net for East Haven, while recording 30 saves.
In the second round on March 8, the team traveled to No. 7 Guilford and won 5-2. The Yellowjackets went off for a four-goal second period. These were scored by Landon Cantele (unassisted), McGlinchey (assisted by Defilio), McGlinchey (assisted by Preston Cantele), and D’Albero (unassisted).
In the third period, Perillo scored a power play goal, assisted by Landon Cantele and Carter McGlinchey. Fritz manned the net, allowing two goals on 18 saves.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Guilford Co-op girls’ ice hockey team entered the SCC Tournament as the No. 6 seed. In the first round on Feb. 19, the team traveled to No. 3 Hamden Co-op and lost 5-0.
