Boys’ Basketball Falls in Conference Semis, Girls’ Basketball Loses in States
Boys’ Basketball
The H-K boys’ basketball team traveled to Cromwell on Feb. 27 for the Shoreline Conference semifinals, where they fell 48-37. The defense kept the Cougars in the game, but ultimately they fell short on offense. Andrew Crayton recorded 17 points and nine rebounds, going 7-7 on free throws. Blake Kamoen scored 11 points, to go with eight rebounds and four steals. Other point scorers were Bryce O’Linn (four points), Jay Evans (three points), and Ryan Erskine (two points).
H-K now awaits their next opponent, as they have a bye in the first round of state tournament action.
Girls’ Basketball
The H-K girls’ basketball team entered the Shoreline Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed. The team faced No. 3 Old Saybrook in the quarterfinals on Feb, 17, pulling off a 65-34 upset.
In the semifinals on Feb. 20, the team hosted No. 2 Morgan and lost 62-32.
H-K then set its sights on the Class M State Tournament, where the team stood as the No. 13 seed. In the first round on Feb. 26, the Cougars hosted No. 20 Montville and grabbed a commanding 66-17 win.
In the second round on Feb. 29, H-K traveled to fourth-seeded Wilcox Tech and lost a tight 63-58 contest.
