Wrestling Produces at State Championship, Skiing Concludes the Regular Season
Wrestling
On Feb. 16-17, Guilford wrestling hosted the Class M State Championship match. The Grizzlies placed fourth as a team, with a score of 150 total points. Elijah McDermott earned a victory at 144 pounds by a 7-1 decision, and Tim Hastings won by pin at 215 pounds (1:22). Logan Murphy grabbed a win by a 7-2 decision in the 285-pound bout.
Skiing
The Guilford co-ed skiing team had its final regular season race on Feb. 15. The boys’ team finished in sixth place with a team time of 327.31. Joel Kowalonek placed eighth, finishing with a combined time of 48.88, and Aaron Kowalonek took 19th (51.17). William Radick took 27th place (53.19), while George Fenollosa finished in 36th (54.99). As a squad, the boys qualified for the State Open Championship on Thursday, Feb. 29.
The girls’ team placed seventh with a 372.31. Riley Hickey finished in 31st place, with a time of 54.72, and Hannah Brown took 55th (59.79). Mattea Jerbi finished in 60th place (60.54). Katherine Soehnlein followed in 70th place, recording a time of 64.15.
