School is in Session at BHS with ‘Legally Blonde’ Spring Musical
Press Release from Branford High School Performing Arts
Branford High School (BHS) Performing Arts invites the entire community to join them for Legally Blonde The Musical, which is running from Wednesday, March 13 through Sunday, March 17 in the Cathyann Roding Auditorium at the high school on 185 East Main Street.
A fabulously fun award-winning show based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde The Musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances, this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal!
BHS sophomore Julianne Henkel has been cast as Elle Woods.
“I was so excited when they announced the musical was Legally Blonde The Musical, but to be cast as Elle Woods is a dream come true!” Henkel said.
The entire cast is made up of 35 students from BHS who are working with director Colin Sheehan and musical director Mike Martone, Jr.
“It is the perfect show for our students because the coming-of-age message is about believing in yourself, setting goals, and working hard to attain them,” said Sheehan. “This is something that we try to instill in all of our students, whether onstage performing, backstage helping, or supporting from the audience. Legally Blonde The Musical is sure to entertain all, so come join us to see what all the buzz is about!”
Martone said that Legally Blonde The Musical will serve as a wonderful example of what it takes to push ones personal limits and achieve at a high level.
“The music and dance are very challenging, and nearly 50 percent of our cast is new to the BHS musical this year. While that may seem like a huge obstacle to overcome, our cast has already taken on this show and is crushing it at every rehearsal. They are truly showing the Elle Woods spirit!” Martone said. “As per usual, we always have a lot of tech and lighting tricks up our sleeve. We are so excited for audiences to see this outstanding cast put on this fun and exciting show!”
BHS senior Matt Law is cast as Emmett Forrest.
“My favorite part of being involved with BHS Performing Arts is the sense of family and community that comes with it,” Law said. “Yes, we put on incredible productions each year, but what's more valuable to me are the relationships and connections that I'll no doubt keep with me long after high school.”
