Girls’ Basketball Takes Two Losses, Wrestling Wins Season Opener
Girls’ Basketball
The Branford girls’ basketball team opened the season on Dec. 12 when the squad hosted Lyman Hall. After a hard-fought contest in which the girls battled, the Hornets fell 34-24. Leading scorers for Branford on the evening were Shelby Burnham with 10 points, and Jessica Radziunas with eight points.
On Dec. 15, the Hornets traveled to East Haven and fell 55-40 in a competitive matchup. Burnham led the way with 22 points, followed by Radziunas with 13. Raiyn Fries and Ally Colburn each scored two points, and Kendall Fagan added one.
Wrestling
Branford wrestling traveled to East Haven on Dec. 13 to open the season and walked away with a 45-33 victory. Wins for the Yellowjackets included Ava Gamberdella in the 106-pound bout by fall (1:20), Moises Morales-Orozco in the 138-pound bout by a 12-10 decision, and Dylan Warner int he 150-pound bout by fall (1:35).
Domenic Maturo won the 165-pound bout by fall at 3:56, while Trent Tracy earned a win by fall at 1:59 of the 175-pound bout. In addition, Cole Snider won the 190-pound bout by fall, Maxfield Parsell won the 215-pound matchup by fall at 2:35, and Ryan Jones won the 285-pound bout by fall.
