Robert J. Finkeldey
Bob Sr. “Mr. Fink,” 84, of Old Saybrook, passed away on Oct. 15 after his battle with Alzheimer’s. He was a dedicated husband to the late Mudite Z. Finkeldey; father to his only daughter Melanie of Woodstock; father to his sons, Robert Jr., Kristen (the late Robbie) of Westbrook; the late Michael, Bonnie (Jeremy) of Clinton; and John (Brittany, John Jr., Tyler, and Tyra) of Essex.
Upon the passing of his wife, Bob enjoyed his life with his girlfriend and longtime family friend, Maribeth Malhotra. Due to her dedication and loving care, Bob was able to remain at his home until his death. Although Bob has passed, the legacy he made will continue through his children and grandchildren. Bob shouldn’t be remembered for his disease, but as the great man he was and how he would light up a room when he walked in. Bob was a true blue-collar legend and as old school as they come. He believed in working hard to succeed. Starting with one garbage truck and a dream, he built a successful waste removal business with his three sons. Finkeldey’s Waste Removal was a recognized name that many throughout the shoreline will never forget. Each night, Bob would come home to tell his kids that our customers appreciated our service. Bob believed in supporting local businesses, and in his retirement, was fond of big tipping for the working man. Bob was an animal lover and never met a dog he didn’t like.
Bob’s family will have a private graveside service and reception on Dec. 3. The family wishes to extend gratitude to the nurses who took the utmost care of Bob Sr. during his years of need: Rose, Bonnie, Kristine, Gus, and Sonia from Vita’s Hospice of Glastonbury. Also, a big thank you for the private care and support to Peggy, Louisa, Cathy, Lysette, and Dave from Lower Valley Care Advocates.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to an Alzheimer’s organization so they can continue to find a cure.
