Keep Our Town Moving Forward
My name is Haifa Jalil, and I am running for the board of Education in Westbrook because I want to serve my town, and I want to share my time, my talent, and my expertise to benefit the students and the community in Westbrook.
My husband and I moved to Westbrook 25 years ago. As all parents, the first thing on our minds was to look for a town where our kids could grow up in a safe and healthy environment and receive a good education, and that’s the reason why we chose Westbrook.
I have been an educator for the past 23 years. I started my career as a science and math tutor at Westbrook High School, where I got a chance to serve and support many students. At that time, I discovered my passion for teaching and learning, so I attended SCSU and became a science teacher in New Haven. My journey was too long; I received my doctorate in education in 2020. Currently, I am the magnet resource coach and the senior class administrator at Hill Regional Career High School.
I believe I am an excellent candidate for the position. I will work with all stakeholders to provide our students with high-quality education, a safe learning environment, and prepare them to become college and career-ready. I am an effective communicator and a good listener; I will represent different groups in the community to ensure all voices are heard.
I have a deep connection and genuine love for my town, and I appreciate the teachers and the school system that helped educate my children. I am asking you to vote for me and give me an opportunity to serve on the board of education and keep our town moving forward.
