Old Saybrook Field Hockey Wins on Senior Night; Boys’ Cross Country Places Third in Shorelines
Field Hockey
The Old Saybrook field hockey team hosted Morgan on Oct. 16, collecting a strong 8-0 win on Senior Night. Sophomore Kendall Dobratz got the scoring started, just over a minute into the first quarter. Dobratz had three goals and two assists on the night. Senior captain Amelia Sigersmith followed up the first goal two minutes later, off of an assist by Dobratz. Sigersmith tallied three goals on the night, and she also had three assists. Junior Grace Desmond added a goal, as well as fellow junior Sydney Webb. Junior Erin Fiorelli had one save in the game.
Field hockey has one regular season game remaining on Saturday, Oct. 28 against East Lyme.
Old Saybrook heads to the Shoreline Conference playoffs as the No. 2 seed. The semifinal game will be held at Indian River Complex on Monday, Oct. 30 vs. Westbrook. Game time is 4 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer
Old Saybrook boys’ soccer hosted Coginchaug on Oct. 17 and won 2-0. Two days later, the Rams traveled to Haddam-Killingworth and recorded a 2-0 win. Old Saybrook finished the week on Oct. 21, when they played host to East Lyme and won 2-1.
Girls’ Cross Country
At the Shoreline Conference Championship on Oct. 19, the Old Saybrook girls’ cross country team took sixth place as a group, scoring 137 points. Carlina Castro came in third in the race, finishing in a time of 19:08.10. Hannah Belknap (22:15.80) took 26th place, while Cassandra Garcia took 39th (23:35.30). Mia Casterano (43rd) and Catherine Pamment (44th) finished back-to-back with times of 23:54.20 and 23:55.80. Sylvie Webber finished in 51st place (25:04.00) and Camillia Motolanez finished in 62nd (28:56.40).
Boys’ Cross Country
Old Saybrook boys’ cross country competed in the Shoreline Conference Championship meet on Oct. 19, placing third overall as a squad with 80 points. Parker Cook won the race, finishing in a time of 15:45.20. Everett Miller took ninth (16:38.30) and Nwang Choegyal (16:44.80) finished in 12th. Gordon Martino followed in 24th place, recording a time of 17:51.40. Dillon Blewitt placed 34th (18:43.40), while Chase Comboni took 43rd (19:12.50). Jack Lowy wasn’t too far behind, as he finished in 47th with a time of 19:22.40.
Girls’ Soccer
On Oct. 17, girls’ soccer hit the road to Coginchaug and fell in a tight, 1-0 contest.
The next day, the team traveled to Windsor Locks and won 3-2. Jameli Jara scored to put the Rams on the board midway through the first half, assisted by Ari Fox. Lauren Dobratz also scored off of an Olive Egbert corner kick, which was redirected back to Dobratz by Jara.
Jara then notched her second goal of the game with 26:50 remaining in the second half, receiving a throw in from Claire Cassella, then blasting a shot past the diving Windsor Locks keeper.
On Oct. 20, Old Saybrook hosted Haddam-Killingworth on Senior Night and ended in an even 1-1 split. Senior captains Alex Benni and Dobratz were honored. Alex Levasseur scored off an Olive Egbert corner kick, which was redirected by Bree Cooke. Rams keeper Kylie Lake allowed one goal and made 11 saves. Lake is tied for the least number of goals allowed by any keeper in the Shoreline Conference this season.
