North Haven Girls’ Volleyball Wins Twice, Football Has a Good Week
Football
The North Haven football team traveled to West Haven on Oct. 19 and won 21-13. Touchdowns for the Nighthawks were scored by Chris Cretella (13-yard run), Cam Thompson (8-yard run), and Adam Pandolfi (1-yard run). Eric Vetrano went 3-for-3 on extra points.
Field Hockey
Field hockey started the week on Oct. 17, hosting Lyman Hall and tying 1-1. On Oct. 21, the team traveled to Guilford and fell 5-0.
Girls’ Volleyball
Nighthawks girls’ volleyball hosted Guilford on Oct. 16 to open the week and fell 3-2 (26-24, 25-14, 24-26, 14-25, 7-15). Avery Berney led the way for North Haven, with one ace, 17 kills, and 17 digs. Alyssa DiGiovanna added two aces, 14 kills, and 25 digs. Grace Battipaglia had three aces, one kill, 36 assists, and 15 digs.
The next match for the Nighthawks was on Oct. 18, when the team played host to West Haven and won 3-1 (26-24, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15). Ava Carlson had 11 kills and five blocks. Berney recorded six aces, 14 kills, and 10 digs, while Battipaglia added two aces, 41 assists, and 12 digs.
Two days later, North Haven ended the week on the road at Lauralton Hall, where the girls won 3-2.
Girls’ Soccer
The North Haven girls’ soccer team traveled to Lyman Hall on Oct. 16 and drew a 1-1 tie. Two days later, the team hosted West Haven and ended in another 1-1 draw. On Oct. 20, North Haven ended the week with a 2-1 loss at home vs. Hamden.
Boys’ Soccer
Boys’ soccer played two games last week, starting with a trip to West Haven on Oct. 18 and falling 4-1. Two days later, the Nighthawks hosted Sheehan and won 2-0.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving
The North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team played host to Lyman Hall on Oct. 16 and lost 97-76. In the girls’ 200 medley relay, Scarlett Russek, Angelina Valentino, Andrea Laborde, and Abigail Ray took third place with a time of 2:33.19. Madisen Karavas (2:16.75) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle, and Kaili Wan took fourth in the 200 IM (3:30.31). Giada Garofalo recorded a second place finish in the 50 freestyle (28.45) and Riley Mattox finished in fourth place in the 1 meter dive (157.45).
In the 100 butterfly, Karavas took second (1:12.10) while Garofalo recorded a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle (1:04.77). Andrea Laborde finished the 500 freestyle in a time of 7:08.33 for third place, and Karavas, Valentino, Morgan Nunez, and Garofalo claimed second in the 200 relay (2:00.74). Russek won the 100 backstroke (1:30.16) and Valentino won the 100 breaststroke (1:32.46) with Shen Wan finishing in second (1:55.27). Garofalo, Nunez, Ray, and Karavas won the 400 relay with a team time of 4:42.37. Natalie Pause, Avery Cullen, Abigail Lorusso, and Russek (5:21.66) came in second in that event.
Boys’ Cross Country
The North Haven boys’ cross country team competed at the SCC Championship meet on Oct. 18, placing ninth with a team score of 253. Nico Boyle was among the top finishers in the race, coming in third in a time of 16:12. In 41st place was Matthew DeNardis, with a time of 18:20. Charles Coughlin took 56th place (18:44.9).
Girls’ Cross Country
On Oct. 18, Nighthawks girls’ cross country competed at the SCC Championship meet, where they finished ninth overall with a score of 225 points. North Haven’s top finisher was Emma Pincince, who came in 28th with a finishing time of 21:54.8. Amalia Morizio took 36th place (22.39.1) and Daniella Rapuano took 42nd (23:17.3).
