Westbrook Field Hockey Grabs a Tie, While Girls’ Soccer Has a Tough Week

Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook football hosted SMSA Co-op on Oct. 6, losing 52-22.

Westbrook field hockey hosted Old Saybrook on Oct. 2 and lost 3-0. Abby Demers recorded two saves in the loss.
On Oct. 5, the Knights played host to Valley Regional and ended in a 0-0 tie. Goalie Grace Vincent recorded one save.
Girls’ Soccer
Westbrook girls’ soccer traveled to Portland on Oct. 3 and lost 3-0. Two days later, the team hosted Morgan on Senior Day and fell 6-0. Goalkeeper Giovanna Silva recorded seven saves in the contest. The Knights ended the week on Oct. 6, hosting Lyman Memorial and taking a 3-0 loss.
Boys’ Soccer
Boys’ soccer hosted Portland on Oct. 2 and fell 1-0.
On Oct. 5, the team traveled to Hale Ray and won 4-0. The Knights were led by goals from Jack Ford, Wilson Rivera, Elliot Koplas and Doug Perrone-Gray. John Freund earned the shutout, making eight saves.
“The defense played very well today,” said Head Coach Derek Hanssen after the contest. “Alex Gomez and Trevor Jones did an excellent job of shutting down Hale Ray’s attack. We worked hard to control the midfield throughout the game and the results showed. I feel the team is really starting to gel and improve.”
Two days later on Oct. 7, Westbrook traveled to Amistad and tied 1-1.
