It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Refat “Ray” Selmani, beloved husband of 48 years to Joan Goodale Selmani, passed away on Sept. 21. Born in Ladorishte, Macedonia, on March 5, 1949, Ray was the son of the late Esma and Aziz Selmani. He was preceded in death by his brother Ejup and sister Amzade, as well as his daughter Lynette Colon. He is survived by his wife Joan; his children Murray (Beverly) Colton, Adolph, Mendi (Kristen) and Michael Selmani; his brothers, Shaip, Nebi and Selim; sisters, Farije and Bajrame; his beloved grandchildren who called him Baba and were the loves of his life: Ciara, Murray, Kelsey, Hannah, Alexis, Jesse, Wesley, Kassidy, Morris, Madison and Nicholas; his great-granddaughter Riley; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ray was a wonderful stone and brick mason on the Connecticut Shoreline for 50 years. He also owned The Villa Cafe in Berlin. The legacy of his masonry trade will be enjoyed by his clients, and his teachings will be carried on by his children.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Connecticut Hospice. Donations to Connecticut Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Guilford Rescue Squad would be appreciated.
