Christopher D. Stallard
Christopher D. Stallard passed in his sleep on Aug. 29; he was 93.
Born in New York City, he was the son of Christopher P. Stallard and Josephine Stallard Labelle. He attended St. Ignatius Loyola Primary School. After moving to Providence in 1943, he attended LaSalle Academy High School. He would go on to attend Providence College. In 1950, during his junior year, his National Guard unit was activated, and he would spend about a year and a half in Germany. After returning, he graduated in 1953.
After spending time in the finance business, he followed the advice of Ron Walling and Jim Walsh and came to Chester to teach. He began teaching in 1959 and would teach at the Chester Elementary School for 33 years.
In 1962, he met and married his wife Jeane; they would spend many years together. Chris was very active in the Chester Library Board, where he served as president for many years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed history, especially World War II.
He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Garrow of Manchester. Also, two sons, Michael of Chester and Paul, Addie of Florida; three stepchildren, Doug Carlson of Clinton, Don Carlson, Barbara of California, Donna Germini of Chester and his son-in-law, Vin Germini; five grandchildren, Tim Carlson of Chester, Matt Germini, Sarah of Chester, Eric Carlson, Kayla of Illinois, Ashley Champion, Eric of Deep River, Courtney Stallard of Florida; also five great-grandchildren.
Services will be private. Donations can be made to the Chester Public Library.
