Press Release from East Haven Police Department

On the morning of Aug. 4, the East Haven Police Department (EHPD) arrested a juvenile in connection to the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Dustin Cecarelli at Tuttle Elementary School on May 23.

The juvenile, 15, was charged with manslaughter in the first degree and assault in the first degree. The juvenile was transferred to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.

“On behalf of the department, we continue to extend our deepest condolences to Dustin’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said East Haven Chief of Police Ed Lennon. “We hope this arrest is the beginning of the healing process.”

Due to the arrested individual being a juvenile, the EHPD stated that the identity will not be released and no additional statements will be provided.
