Beaches Close in Stony Creek, Short Beach, Due to High Bacteria Counts on July 11
On Tuesday, July 11, the East Shore District Health Department (ESDHD) announced the temporary closings of Stony Creek Beach on Thimble Island Road, and Clark Avenue Beach in Short Beach, effective immediately, due to high bacteria counts following heavy rains during the morning of July 10.
“They will monitor and re-test tomorrow morning and we should receive the results late tomorrow afternoon,” stated Branford Parks and Recreation Director Alex Palluzzi Jr., in an email issued July 11.
ESDHD testing cleared Branford Point Beach, located on Harbor Street, which remains open.
In addition to the news of closing some public beaches in Branford, ESDHD also noted that the Hotchkiss Grove Association private beach in Branford is temporarily closed as of July 11.
ESDHD posts its reports of beach openings and closings (salt water and fresh water) for the towns of Branford, North Branford and East Haven at its website.
