H-K Boys’ Golf Wins Three; Softball Sweeps the Week
Baseball
Baseball split the week, picking up a win and a loss. They hosted Middletown on May 15, falling to the visitors 6-2. On May 17, they defeated visiting Ellington 6-5. The Cougars are 17-5 for the season.
Girls’ Lacrosse
Girls’ lacrosse had a challenging week, recording three losses and a win. The team hosted Morgan on May 15, falling 7-6 in overtime. On May 16, they hosted Valley Regional in a 14-4 win before hitting the road to Old Lyme where they were defeated 11-6 on May 18. They fell to Suffield on May 20 on the road by a score of 16-9. The Cougars are 8-7 for the season.
Softball
Cougars softball swept the week, picking up three more wins to add to its 14-5 resume. The team started out the week with a visit to East Hampton on May 15 for a 12-0 victory in six innings. They returned home on May 16 to host East Lyme in a 9-0 win. The Cougars traveled to East Granby on May 17 and recorded a 24-3 victory.
Girls’ Tennis
Girls’ tennis continued its tough season, recording two more losses. The team hosted East Hampton on May 15 in a 5-2 loss. They traveled to North Branford on May 17 in a 4-3 defeat. The team is now 1-14.
Boys’ Lacrosse
Boys’ lacrosse grabbed a pair of wins last week to bring their season record to 14-2. The Cougars traveled to Deep River on May 16, defeating Valley Regional 15-6. They returned home on May 18 to defeat Old Lyme in a 12-0 shutout.
Golf
H-K boys’ golf played host to Hale Ray on May 15, recording a 170-177 win. Andrew Crayton and Colton Whiteley scored a 41 on the course. Both scoring a 44 were Declan Kessler and Owen Staskelunas, and Jacob Maier scored a 46. On
May 16, the Cougars hosted Coginchaug and won 163-179. Kessler and Crayton were co-medalists, each scoring a 40. They were followed by Staskelunas with a 41, Maier with a 42 and Whiteley with a 43. Hand hosted Portland on May 17 and lost 160-172. Kessler was a medalist with a 39. Maier scored a 44 as did Whiteley. Staskelunas recorded a 45 and Crayton scored a 46.
Finally, on May 18, the Cougars played host to Valley Regional and grabbed a 168-176 victory. Co-medalists for the day were Crayton and Whiteley, who both scored a 40 on the course. Maier scored a 43 followed by Kessler with a 45. Staskelunas finished with a 46.
