Faster Internet Speeds On the Way for North Haven
Telecommunications provider GoNetspeed is looking to install new fiber-optics infrastructure in North Haven for residents and businesses.
The company will commit to a privately funded $4.4. million investment in town to provide 100% fiber internet for more than 4,700 locations in town, bringing faster and more reliable connections for all types of users.
“In the coming months, we will quickly bring service to homes and businesses throughout North Haven. As this community continues to grow, the need for reliable and high-speed internet is more important than ever,” said Tom Perrone, senior vice president of network operations and general manager of Connecticut. “With access to our 100% fiber internet, North Haven will be equipped with an infrastructure that will meet the crucial need for faster internet.”
Katie Custer, a public relations representative with GoNetspeed said their “cutting-edge” technology should be a “vital” benefactor for growing the North Haven community.
“As people work from home, game from home, learn from home, and steam at home, it’s really the only way communities can continue to grow and keep up with larger communities or neighboring communities,” Custer said.
First Selectman Michael Freda expressed thanks towards the company for their investment and the service they will look to provide for community members and the economy.
“On behalf of North Haven, I want to thank GoNetspeed for their generous investment in our community. Their service will not only provide access to faster internet but will also support the continued growth of our community’s economic development,” said Freda. “We’re excited to soon see and experience the impact of their service and look forward to the success it will bring in the future.”
As part of their investment, GoNetspeed will build an infrastructure in North Haven equal to 70 miles of service. This figure is the total calculated distance of all roads in the town and provides the full scope for the company to determine how “to get past all those residents” in providing service, according to Perrone.
The fiber infrastructure will be constructed along the town’s utility lines with access points to the fiber optic material to allow potential users to join the network more smoothly.
Provided service will be symmetrical, meaning uploads and downloads of images, emails, video, or entertainment should run at the same rate for users ranging from business owners to gamers. According to Perrone, quicker data transmission for both uploading and downloading, or “latency,” is important in today’s world for all users.
“Nowadays, everything is driven by [the] internet, or high-speed internet. The business has all the same needs as the residential folks: the need for additional capacity at a value at a very competitive rate and the same expectations for the responsiveness from the service provider.”
Perrone said the company would collaborate with the North Haven Police Department to manage traffic control along construction areas. They will also work with the North Haven Department of Public Works to inform them of any disturbances to areas that may be made.
Construction of the infrastructure should begin in July and conclude sometime in October, according to Perrone. The company will notify residents in an area of construction of the development status.
Paige Widlak, the project's marketing and community engagement coordinator, said the company is looking to hold informational sessions in town for residents to learn more about the project.
Public relations representative Katherine Yochum said North Haven residents can visit gonetspeed.com “to indicate interest in signing up for GoNetspeed service and to receive construction updates on the build’s progress.”
