North Haven Garden Club Plants Northern Red Oak for Arbor Day
On April 28, several members of the North Haven Garden Club (NHGC) gathered to plant a northern red oak at Forest Grove Park for Arbor Day. This tree will provide years of natural habitat to many animals both big and small as northern red oaks offer good cover and nesting sites for a wide variety of birds and animals. They also require little maintenance, have a long lifespan, and do well in many types of soil.
NHGC member Keith Lombardo picked up the tree and, with help from Anthony Golia, who is the husband of club member Cindy Golia, planted the tree in a designated spot at the park. Club members Lynda O'Donnell, Gerri Giordano, Sue Dannenoffer, and Carmen Sealy, along with Carmen’s husband Will Sealy, brought containers of water for the thirsty tree.
