Westbrook Girls’ Tennis Wins Three Straight; Outdoor Track Shines at Bellringer Invitational
Baseball
Westbrook baseball took a 14-4 loss at home to Old Saybrook in its first game of the season on April 3. The Knights then hosted Old Lyme on April 5 and lost 19-5 before playing Hale Ray at home on April 6 and losing 5-2.
Softball
Old Saybrook/Westbrook softball grabbed a commanding 27-9 win over Whitney Tech in the season opener at home on April 3. On April 5, they traveled to Old Lyme and fell 20-0 before taking a 25-1 loss at Hale Ray on April 6.
Boys’ Tennis
Westbrook boys’ tennis grabbed a 4-3 win in its first match of the season in a home clash with Haddam-Killingworth on April 3. For Singles, Elliot Koplas (Westbrook) defeated Eddie White (H-K) 6-0, 6-3. Bryce Leiberman (H-K) took down Josh Davey (Westbrook) 6-0, 6-0, and Joe Wessinger (H-K) beat Aiden Otrin (Westbrook) 6-7, 6-0, 6-0. Miles Hayden (Westbrook) grabbed a win over Will Lirot 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. For Doubles, Ryan Engels and John Freund (Westbrook) defeated Gus Luzietti and Cavin Napoletano (H-K) 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, while Trevor Jones and Jon Brajczewski (Westbrook) defeated Ezekial Stevens and Saige Merwin 6-2, 6-3. Finally, Adam Livingston and Luke Frihlich (H-K) claimed the win over Dev Patel and Yareth Antunez 5-7, 7-5, 7-5.
The Knights then hosted East Hampton on April 5 and won by a commanding 7-0 score. In the contest, Elliot Koplas (Westbrook) took down Anthony Miro 6-0, 6-0. Josh Davey (Westbrook) got a win against Landon Vaillancourt 6-0, 6-0, and Aiden Otrin (Westbrook) defeated Zach Selger 6-0, 6-1. Miles Hayden (Westbrook) won by forfeit. On the Doubles side, Ryan Engles and John Freund (Westbrook) defeated Will Faber and Will Bothamley 6-0, 6-0. Trevor Jones and Jon Brajczewski (Westbrook) won by forfeit, and Dev Patel and Yareth Antunez (Westbrook) also won by forfeit.
Girls’ Tennis
The Westbrook girls’ tennis team won its debut match on April 3 in 7-0 fashion at Haddam-Killingworth. They then played host to Cromwell on April 4, winning 6-1, before taking a third straight win (7-0) at East Hampton on April 5.
Outdoor Track
The Westbrook boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams competed at the Bellringer Invitational in East Hampton on April 1. On the girls’ side, Leticia Pires took fourth place in the Long Jump (13’6) qualifying for Shorelines, and third place in the Triple Jump (30’6”) to qualify for Shorelines and states. Kayla Prisley qualified for Shorelines in the 100 meters (14.44, 22nd place) and the 200 meters (29.73, 20th place). Lily Freeman qualified for Shorelines in the 1600 meters (6:12, 11th place).
For the boys, Brandon Naccarato qualified for states and Shorelines in the 100 meters (11.57, third place) and in the 200 meters (24.4, sixth place). In the Long Jump, Naccarato qualified for Shorelines (17’2”, sixth place). John Grace also qualified for Shorelines in the 100 meters (12.09, 11th place).
