Thomas Scott Meeker, Jr.
Thomas Scott Meeker, Jr., 82, of Branford, died peacefully on March 25. He was born June 15, 1940, in New Haven to Thomas Scott Sr. and Hazel (Saddig) Meeker.
He was the husband of Pauline (Couture) Meeker. Thomas was the father of Dawn Meeker of East Haven, Paul Meeker of New Haven, and Richard Meeker of East Haven. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel Meeker (Maryann) of East Haven, and sisters, Nancy Doorn of North Branford, Dorothy Maturo of East Haven, and Beatrice Meeker of East Haven. Thomas was a proud grandfather of Matthew Massimino and Victoria Meeker, step-grandchildren Andrew and Krista Leonardo and Kayla Baker, and he cherished the mother of his children, Norma Meeker.
He worked many years at Simkins and New Haven Drywall. Thomas’ most enjoyable career was that of a handicapper. Thomas “Tommy Turf” won numerous handicapping tournaments and loved all racetracks, especially Saratoga, with his sons. Thomas was an avid Yankee fan; he enjoyed golf, bowling, spending endless hours talking with Matthew about sports, history, and gardening at his daughter’s home.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Frederick and David Meeker; brothers-in-law, Dino Doorn and Lewis Maturo; and a stepdaughter, Michele Leonardo.
Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Tyler Street, East Haven. Please go directly to the cemetery.
