East Haven Rep. Albis Takes Office at State Capitol
Newly sworn in State Representative James Albis (D-East Haven) officially took office at the State Capitol as a member of the Connecticut General Assembly following his victory in the recently held special election.
"I am honored and look forward to my first session in the General Assembly," Rep. Albis said. "The campaign is over and I'm ready to get to work representing the residents of my district."
He was appointed by Speaker of the House Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) to the Judiciary, Banks and Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committees.
The Judiciary Committee has cognizance of all matters pertaining to courts, judicial procedures, criminal law, probate courts, judicial nominations, as well as all matters pertaining to the Judicial Department, Department of Corrections, the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, bills carrying civil penalties and bills carrying criminal penalties. The Banks Committee has jurisdiction of matters relating to banks, savings banks, bank and trust companies, saving and loan associations, credit unions, the supervision of the sale of securities and legislation dealing with secured and unsecured lending. The Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee has oversight over all matters relating to finance, revenue, capital bonding, fees and taxation, the Department of Revenue Services and the revenue aspects of the Division of Special Revenue.
"I believe my committee assignments will allow me to best represent the needs of my district," Rep. Albis said. "These are challenging times and I want to do all I can do to encourage job creation and economic growth."
