North Branford Baseball Scores Runs Aplenty; Golf Squad Gets First Victory

The North Branford baseball team won three of its four games last week to improve its record to 7-3 in the spring season. The T-Birds notched wins over Old Lyme, Hale-Ray, and Portland to go with a loss against Coginchaug in recent action.
On April 26, North Branford played a road game versus Old Lyme and prevailed by a 14-2 score. Senior Jadon Canelli pitched a complete game on the mound and hit two home runs to lead the T-Birds to the victory. Junior Dominic Scalia also hit two home runs and had five RBI, while sophomore Nico DeSisto also hit a homer for the Thunderbirds.
Two days later, North Branford played a road game against Hale-Ray and came away with a 12-4 win. North Branford scored six runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning on its way to the victory. DeSisto had two doubles in the contest, and junior Ryan Michonski hit a triple for the T-Birds.
On April 29, North Branford lost to Coginchaug by a 9-0 final in a road game. Then on May 1, The T-Birds hosted Portland and routed the Highlanders by the tally of 16-2.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The North Branford girls’ lacrosse team played a pair of matches last week, winning both of them to up its record to 5-2 on the year. The T-Birds earned wins versus Branford and Morgan in last week’s contests.
On April 26, North Branford took on Branford at home and won the contest by a 10-3 score. The Thunderbirds held a 6-1 advantage after the first quarter and maintained their lead all the way to the final whistle.
Junior Olivia Toto scored four goals for North Branford in the win. Senior Gabrielle Gibilisco, junior Braeden LeBeau, and freshman Keana Criscuolo each had two goals apiece. Senior goalie Sofia Votto made 11 saves.
The day after defeating Branford, the T-Birds faced Morgan on the road and won the contest by an 11-6 score.
Boys’ Golf
The North Branford boys’ golf squad split a pair of road matches last week, picking up its first win of the year in the process. The T-Birds took a loss to Cromwell before earning a win against Old Lyme to move to 1-2 this spring.
The T-Birds faced Cromwell TPC River Highlands on April 27 and lost the contest by a 183-198 final. Freshman Jack O’Brien turned in the best score for North Branford by shooting a 39 on the round. Junior Dakota Cooper scored a 50, while fellow juniors Jalen Rossicone and Blake Pearson posted totals of 52 and 57, respectively.
The following day, North Branford claimed a 191-198 road victory against Old Lyme at Black Hall Golf Club. O’Brien earned medalist honors with his low round of 43 for the match. Cooper shot a 44, Pearson carded a 50, and Rossicone returned to the clubhouse with a score of 54 for the Thunderbirds.
Girls Tennis
The North Branford girls’ tennis team took three defeats last week and is now 0-8 this season.
On April 26, the T-Birds took a 4-3 loss to Coginchaug on the road. North Branford went on to drop a 6-1 contest against Valley Regional in a home match on April 28. Three days later, the T-Birds hosted Old Saybrook and were edged out by a 4-3 score.
