Jess Edward Cullison, 87, Guilford
Jess Edward Cullison, 87, of 44 Woodside Dr., Guilford, died Dec. 30 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Beverly L. Cullison. Mr. Cullison was born on March 5, 1925 in Evanston, Illinois, son of the late Edward V. Cullison and Daisy Lowe Cullison. He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in psychology and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. Mr. Cullison had worked in management for several manufacturing companies in Chicago and New Haven. He was a Methodist, a Boy Scout leader (when his son achieved Eagle Scout), and a member of the American Legion and the NRA. With his best friend and son-in-law, he collected and restored military rifles. Mr. Cullison was also a member of the Niantic Sportsman’s Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son David C. Cullison and wife Martha; his daughter Valerie J. Cullison Darling and her husband Richard; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his two sisters, Lois Ann Armstrong of Illinois and Darlene Heap of Colorado, and his brother-in-law Arnold Schaid of Idaho, and their families.
A private service will be held on Friday, Jan. 4. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
