Spooktacular in Guilford
A Spooktacular Event in Guilford
By Karena Garrity
It’s going to get Spoooooky this Sunday, October 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. on the Guilford Town Green as the Guilford Park and Recreation Department, in conjunction with Guilford Youth and Family Services and D.A.Y (Developmental Assets for Youth) will be working together to put on a Halloween Spooktacular like no other. This celebration is complete with a magic show by Amazing Andy, a costume contest, pumpkin painting, face painting, balloon animals, a DJ, a big chair picture area and some very tasty Ashley’s Ice Cream Sundays.
“This fun event is a great opportunity to show the youth in the Guilford community that they are valued and welcome,” explained Dana Pelliccio, the prevention co-coordinator for D.A.Y.
The Spooktacular is replacing the annual Family Fun Day event that Youth and Family Services usually puts on this time of year.
“This new event will be held on the green instead of the community center,” explained Youth and Family Services Director Lyne Landry. “In the past Youth and Family Service held an event and Park and Rec held an event, this year we decided to pool our resources and do one big event together.”
She added, “I think it is going to be great time for everyone, we usually get about 300 to 400 people to the Family Fun Day so, we are hoping to get that many and more to this huge family gathering.”
For the first time ever, Park Street in town will be shut down to cars for a Halloween Trunk or Treat happening as part of the Spooktacular event. Residents, businesses and agencies in town will have their trunks, backs of trucks and vans decked out in haunted holiday garb so children of all ages can trick or treat up and down Park street from 2 to 4 p.m. in a safe daytime area. To register, go to www.guilfordparkrec.com and use #41106A1 program code.
Note: Businesses on the Green will NOT be handing out treats and candy has part of the Spooktacular. Rain location will be the Adams Middle School.
