Truly Making a Difference
You may have seen a story about cuts to Meals on Wheels in other towns that resulted in the rationing of meals. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Guilford Community Fund and the generosity of our community, our Guilford seniors receiving home delivered meals will not be subjected to any cutbacks.
The Guilford Interfaith Volunteers (GIV) Meals on Wheel program is completely locally funded, so reductions in state or federal funding do not directly affect our efforts. Local funding means that we can serve our neighbors unable to provide them self with a nutritious meal, without regard to their age or financial situation and without delay. Our local funding is possible because of the tremendous support we receive from the Guilford Community Fund and from the donations made to Meals on Wheels from many individuals, organizations and businesses. Last year 85 volunteers delivered 25,000 meals to 188 Guilford residents; 59 percent of the meals were provided at reduced cost to our neighbors having financially difficulties.
In addition to Meals on Wheels, the Guilford Community Fund supports 22 other non-profit agencies that provide a wide variety of services to the residents of our town. Thanks go to everyone who contributes to the Community Fund—they are truly making a difference in Guilford! We hope that those considering contributing to the Guilford Community Fund will indeed write that check or make that online donation. They will be joining us in bringing to life the GIV motto of “Neighbor Helping Neighbor.”
