A Team Effort
In governing, as in life, there are no issues that have no solutions. We’ve learned that thoughtful deliberation with others results in great accomplishments. We know firsthand that working together has resulted in enormous benefits for all. Cooperation among fellow board members, other boards, and the public has produced positive results.
In governing, the dialogue centers around efficiently providing services, programs, and infrastructure and how best to budget within our means. Property taxes remain our primary source of funding and all solutions must be weighed against our community’s ability to pay. Competing interests need to be carefully considered and prioritized. It takes a team effort. No one elected official can operate in a vacuum to implement policy or solutions without the cooperation of others. It is simply how our town functions.
Robert J. Hartmann, Jr., the GOP-endorsed candidate for first selectman, contacted us to discuss his vision for the next Board of Selectmen (BOS). He saw an opportunity to incorporate our incumbent experience and depth of knowledge (Charles having served eight years on the BOS and Susan eight years on the Board of Education) into a new, cohesive BOS management team. He sought our counsel in identifying issues and offered his insight on solutions. In the process, we came to learn that he represented the ultimate team player, unafraid to expose his own limitations or seek advice from others, but never fearful of a challenge. He has the perfect skill set to be our town’s next first selectman.
For our part, we’re honored to be a part of Bob’s team. He truly is all about keeping Guilford strong. We endorse Bob Hartmann for first selectman and would be privileged and honored to serve with him on the BOS. We encourage your readers to vote for Robert J. Hartmann, Jr.
