North Branford Boys’ Ice Hockey Wins Two Games; Girls’ Basketball Splits the Week
Girls’ Basketball
Girls’ basketball split the week with a win on the road and a loss at home. The T-Birds took a victory from Haddam-Killingworth on Feb. 7, 62-56. They returned home to host Morgan on Feb. 10 and took a narrow 49-45 defeat. The team is 8-11 on the season.
Boys’ Basketball
Thunderbirds boy’s basketball posted a loss in its only game last week, falling on the road to Morgan 57-42. They are now 5-13 for the season.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
Boys’ ice hockey took the ice for a pair of wins last week. The T-Birds hit the road to defeat Amity Regional on Feb. 8 7-2. CJ Sherwood was the story of the game for North Branford, as he netted five goals. These scores were assisted by Jake Pederson and Antonio Nero (first score), Pederson and Michael Matteo (second score), Brady Martinik and Matteo (third score), Matteo (fourth score) and Jack Maley and Matteo (fifth score). Maley also scored a shorthanded goal, assisted by Colin Augur, as well as a late thid-period score on a rebound shot from Sherwood. They returned home on Feb. 11 to host Lyman Hall in a Senior Night 8-3 victory. Seniors Aidan Geist, Antonio Nero, and Jake Rispoli were honored prior to the puck drop. In the contest, CJ Sherwood recorded a hat trick. His first and second goals were assisted by Michael Matteo. His third score came off of a pass from Jack Maley. Other goal scorers were Maley (assisted by Sherwood), Colin Augur, Matteo, and Connor Stoner (assisted by Sherwood). Maley scored a second goal, this time assisted by Brady Martinik and Nero. The team is now 7-6-2.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Guilford girls’ ice hockey co-op came away with one win and a loss last week. On Feb. 10, the team hosted New Canaan in a 3-0 loss. They traveled to Hamden to take on Amity/Cheshire/North Haven on Feb. 10, recording a 3-2 victory. The team is 7-10 on the season.
Boys’ Indoor Track
The North Branford boys’ indoor track team placed 16th overall at the Class S State Championship on Feb. 9. Samuel Gott placed second in the 300 Meter dash, with a time of 36.04, and seventh in the 55 Meters (6.76).
