Boys’ Basketball

North Haven boys’ basketball split the week, posting a win and a loss at home. The team hosted Hand on Jan. 31 for a 47-35 loss and hosted Lyman Hall on Feb. 3 in a 44-39 victory. The Nighthawks are now 9-7 on the season.

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

The North Haven/East Haven/North Branford/Guilford boys’ swimming and diving team recorded a pair of losses last week. They hosted Fairfield Prep on Jan. 31. The team lost to the visitors 97-84. In the meet, Aiden Cohen won the 50 freestyle, recording a time of 23.40, and Christian Butler’s 261.80 diving score secured a first-place finish. William Cong gave the Warriors a victory in the 100 breaststroke, racing a time of 1:08.15, and the 400 freestyle relay team, consisting of Josue Bravo, Sam Mayo, Lucas Espinosa and Joey Gould, finished with a first-place time of 3:50.85. On Feb. 2, the team traveled to Hamden, losing 97-86. Winners for the Warriors included Aiden Cohen in the 50 freestyle (23.66), Christian Butler in the 1 meter dive (263.35), and Spencer Carroll in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.88). Aiden Cohen, William Cong, Joey Gould and Josue Bravo competed in the 400 freestyle relay, winning the race with a time of 3:44.25. The Warriors are now 4-3 on the season.

Girls’ Basketball

The Nighthawks continued their winning season, posting a pair of wins on the road. On Jan. 31, the team traveled to Milford to take on conference opponent Law. Julia Ball recorded 15 points, and Sammi Santacroce, Ava Papa, and Ava Johnson each recorded 11 points in the 71-36 win. The team returned to Milford on Feb. 3 to avenge an early season loss to Foran. North Haven took the victory, 42-38, behind Ball’s 16 points. The Nighthawks are now 13-4 on the season.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

After a blazing start to the season, boys’ ice hockey stumbled last week, taking a pair of losses on the road. The team took its first loss of the season to Branford on Feb. 1 by a score of 3-2. Owen Quick scored both Nighthawk goals and played a solid all-around game. They traveled to Rhode Island on Feb. 4 and were dealt a shut-out loss by Pilgrim, 0-6. The Nighthawks are now 12-2 for the season.

Wrestling

North Haven wrestling recorded its first-ever placed finish on Feb. 4 at the Bacon Academy Matt Bishel Bobcat Classic. Elijah Ellis finished in fourth place at 170 lbs.

Cheerleading

The Nighthawks cheerleading team finished in second place at the SCC Cheerleading Competition on Feb. 4 at North Haven High School. The team recorded a score of 79.95.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Amity/North Haven/Cheshire girls’ ice hockey team took two losses this past week. First, on Feb. 1, they took a 1-8 loss to the Hamden co-op at home. They then traveled to Shelton on Feb. 3 for a matchup with the Masuk co-op, taking a 2-3 loss. The team is now 0-17 on the season.

Indoor Track

The North Haven boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams competed in the SCC Indoor Track Championships on Feb. 4, where the boys’ team placed ninth overall. Standouts for the Nighthawks included the girls’ 4x400 relay team, consisting of Rebecca Ford, Anna Mortali, Payton Orosco, and Daniella Rapuano.

The girls took ninth place in the race, with a finishing time of 4:47.70. In the 4x800, North Haven also took ninth place, with the team consisting of Ford, Mortali, Orosco, and Andrea August (11:36.24). On the boys’ side, Ethan Anderson took first place in the Shot Put, and Yousef Gebril took second. Matthew Helwig found himself in sixth place, and Dillon Songhurst and James Studley finished in ninth and tenth, respectively.
