Branford Boys’ Hoops Edges East Haven in Overtime; Boys’ Hockey Earns Win Versus North Branford
Boys’ Basketball
The Hornets split the week, taking both a win on the road and a loss at home. The team hosted Cheshire on Jan. 24, falling to the visitors 60-49, before hitting the road to edge out a 67-66 victory over East Haven on Jan. 27. At 3-9 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, the Hornets traveled to New Haven to play Career Magnet on Jan. 31 (after press time). They’ll host Fairfield Prep on Friday, Feb. 3.
Girls’ Basketball
The girls’ basketball team’s tough season continued with two non-conference losses. The Hornets traveled to Madison on Jan. 24 to face Daniel Hand in a 75-30 loss. Three days later, on Jan. 27, the team hosted Amity Regional in a 46-52 defeat. Now 4-10 on the season and 0-3 in league play, the team hosted Guilford on Jan. 31 (after press time) and will hit the road for a pair of non-conference games against Waterford on Feb. 2 and Lauralton Hall on Feb. 3.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
Boys’ ice hockey improved to 6-6 on the season after posting a 4-3 win over North Branford on Jan. 25 and a 4-2 loss to Lyman Hall on the road on Jan. 23. The team, now 3-3 in conference play, hosted North Haven on Feb. 1 (after press time) and will host East Catholic and the Eastern CT Eagles in a doubleheader on Feb. 4.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of the visiting Suffield co-op 5-4 on Jan. 28. The Tigers are now 8-4 on the season. They were set to travel to Ridgefield to take on Wilton/Norwalk/McMahon on Feb. 1 (after press time). The team will take on Woodstock Academy co-op on the road on Friday, Feb. 3, and will travel to Stamford to face Stamford/Westhill/Staples on Saturday, Feb. 4.
