Greater New Haven Warriors Squirt B Black Team Wins Christmas Classic Championship
On Dec. 27-30, the Greater New Haven Warriors Squirt B Black Team competed in the Christmas Classic Championship at the Northford Ice Pavilion, coming in first place and going undefeated in all rounds of play. In the first round on Dec. 27, the Warriors took on the Northwestern Ice Hawks B Team and won 9-3. Then, in the afternoon, they took on the Connecticut Riverhawks and won 4-3. On Dec. 28, the Warriors took on their fellow Greater New Haven Squirt B Red Team and blanked them by a score of 3-0. On Dec. 30, the championship game took place, where the Warriors squared off against the Shoreline Sharks and won 7-1.
The team is coached by Rich Kokorus of Northford, CT. He previously played on the East Haven High School hockey team and currently plays in an adult men's roller hockey league as well. He is passionate about hockey and loves sharing his love of the game with his squirt team. Assistant coaches are David Falcigno of Branford and Robert Velardi of North Haven.
The Squirt Team is made up of players in the 9-10 age group. The players include: Chloe Batson, Jonathon Brown, Ava Falcigno, Daniel Frank, Presley Gauvin, Declan Gerrish, Carol Ann Gillooly, Henry Harrington, Alex Kokorus, Gianna Velardi, and Austin Ziegler.
The players hail from the following towns: New Haven, Salem, Northford, North Haven, North Branford, Middletown, Branford and Durham.
