Robert W. Wengefeld, 58, Old Saybrook
Robert W. Wengefeld, 58, of Old Saybrook, died suddenly on Nov. 6. He was the beloved husband of Nancy M. Wengefeld. Bob was born on Feb. 18, 1954 in Quincy, Massachusetts, son of Emily and Walter Wengefeld. A resident of Old Saybrook, Bob had formerly resided in Medway, Massachusetts, and was a graduate of Quincy Vocational Technical School.
Bob was loved by many for his craftsmanship and honesty in his home repair business. His MacGyver-like skills were legendary and brought joy to everyone who knew him. Prior to starting his own business, he had worked for six years at Unilever in Clinton.
Bob loved spending time with family and friends. He also loved fishing, boating, scuba diving, snowmobiling, skiing, cooking, bonfires, and animals. His favorite vacations were yearly trips to The Keys and Block Island. The house at Lake Sunapee was a magical place for family and friends.
Bob knew how to have fun. He always took the lead in planning the next exciting adventure. You never knew what it would be, but you knew it would be fun because Bob was in charge.
Bob’s smile and laugh were contagious. He could be easily bribed with chocolate. Bob was devoted to family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Besides his loving wife and his parents, Bob is survived by his devoted daughters, Amy and Sara. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary Lynch and her husband Edward of Niantic; his brother-in-law Patrick Lynch and wife Jenn of Upton, Massachusetts; his brother-in-law Sean Lynch and wife Shelley of Medway, Massachusetts; Annmarie Lynch of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister-in-law Cheryle Mullaney and husband Jon of Old Lyme; and his brother-in-law Christopher Lynch of Niantic. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom loved their Uncle Bob. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Kathy (Mrs. Edward) Dill, formerly of Bellingham, Massachusetts, as well as Diane Lynch and Ben Kegler of Old Saybrook, whom he loved like a son.
